Taking the Lead

1. decades: Counting by decades means counting ten years at a time.
    Example: My grandmother has been alive for six decades, or sixty years.

2. active: If you are active, you do a lot of things and stay busy.
    Example: I am active in the school band, the newspaper, and the track team.

3. transform: To transform something means to change its appearance in a big way.
    Example: We helped transform the empty lot into a beautiful trash.

4. volunteer: A volunteer is someone who helps but is not paid money to do so.
    Example: Mrs. Lee works two days a week as a volunteer in the school library.

5. violated: Someone or something that has been violated has been ignored or disturbed in a cruel or harmful 
    way.

    Example: The woman's rights were violated when she was not allowed to vote.
